We provide a professional service but in a relaxed and friendly environment. We aim to work jointly with you as parents or carers to gain an accurate picture of your child's communication needs and, if required, use this to plan effective, accessible and fun therapy for your child.
Parents or carers can self refer to our service and waiting time for an initial appointment is usually under two weeks. Subsequent therapy sessions, if required, can also be arranged in a timely manner and at a time that works best for you and your child.
Assessment
We offer a comprehensive assessment of your child's speech, language and communication needs. We provide a flexible approach to speech and language assessments by using a mix of formal (standardised and norm referenced) and informal assessments. Initial assessment takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and time is taken to discuss your child's specific strengths and difficulties and to agree the best course of action for you and your child.
Therapy
Following assessment, if required, we offer a menu of bespoke therapy services. This may include one to one weekly, fortnightly or monthly therapy sessions and/or small group therapy sessions. Clear goals and timescales for therapy are agreed with you at the outset and progress is monitored at each session. Therapy is planned to ensure your child feels relaxed and is having fun while also always ensuring that therapy continues to be effective.
Professional liaison
We offer liaison with other professionals who may be involved with your child. This may include nursery or school staff, other healthcare professionals or other Speech & Language Therapists working with your child within the NHS. Liaison may include visits to your child's nursery or school to gain a better understanding of your child's needs and to provide practical strategies and resources to help your child achieve their specific therapy goals.
